RELIGION & VALUES

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Term 1, which was full of exploration and learning, is coming towards the end. In this Term, for Religion & Values, students have been working hard to develop their understanding about Islam.

Foundation students have been learning the basics of Islam, such as the Islamic greetings, Bismillah, Alhamdulillah and some of Allah’s names, Al-Khaliq and Ar-Razzak. They are enthusiastically learning Surah Ihklas in Memorization lessons. Years 1 to 6 students have been learning about Faith in Islam. Students learnt about the Six Pillars of Faith in detail at each Year Level. They studied these topics through questioning, brainstorming, exploring and watching videos. In order to be engaged in their learning, students also prepared posters outlining actions and benefits of Wudu and Salah.

In Memorisation classes, students have been learning new surahs/du’as and also revising what they have learnt in the previous year. I kindly encourage parents to support students’ memorization tasks at home.

To teach our Year 3 & 4 students Islamic history and heritage within Australia and aboard, the Religion and Values group of teachers, organised an excursion to the Islamic Museum of Australia. The visit to Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA) provided an educational and cross-cultural experience for the students and showcased the artistic and cultural heritage of Muslims in Australia and all over the world. Through the five permanent galleries - Islamic Faith, Islamic Contributions to Civilisation, Art, Architecture, Prophets Life (PBUH) and Australian Muslim history - the museums raised a more nuanced and realistic understanding of what it means to be an Australian Muslim.

If you have any queries about students’ learning, please make an appointment via the office or email me at [email protected].

I wish everyone a wonderful term break.
